Our Journey

Our mission began in 1997, when Giani Gagandeep Singh Ji initiated Langar Sewa—offering free community meals—on weekly, monthly, and yearly occasions, especially during Gurpurabs and Hola Mohalla. As more people joined in, the spirit of community service and fellowship flourished.

Recognizing the need for a name that reflected the purity and inclusiveness of this mission, the founding home was affectionately named an Ashram. As the initiative gained recognition, it was renamed Nirmal Ashram, where “Nirmal” signifies purity, sacredness, and being free from communalism, politics, and discrimination.

The name draws inspiration from Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy of Nirmal Vichardhara, which emphasizes:

-> Seva (Selfless Service)

-> Naam Japna (Meditation on the Divine Name)

-> Kirat Karni (Earning an Honest Living)

-> Vand Chakna (Sharing with Others)

With this foundation, Giani Ji expanded the mission globally, spreading the teachings and spirit of Gurbani across India and to countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, and throughout Asia.
